What is HR?
Human Resources (HR) serves as the ‘backbone’ of a business by managing the entire employee lifecycle to maximise workforce productivity and protect the company from legal risks!
As it acts as the strategic bridge between leadership and staff, HR is responsible for ; recruiting top talent, onboarding new hires, and even designing competitive salary and benefits packages that attract and retain skilled employees.
Beyond initial recruitment, HR encourages the long term business growth by organising ; employee learning, development programmes, overseeing performance evaluation frameworks, workplace standards and compliance and mediating workplace conflicts to maintain a positive corporate culture.
Essentially, HR moderates financial and reputational risk by ensuring strict compliance with legal responsibilities, health and safety regulations, and fair disciplinary or termination procedures given.
Why is HR important to young people entering the workplace?
As a sixth form student about to enter the workplace, I think that HR plays a vital role in the workplace because it will support my transition into work by:
- HR creates a safe and respectful workplace for young people entering the new environment
- HR supports employees with training, guidance and development opportunities
- HR ensures that workplace policies are fair and followed correctly
- HR helps young people understand workplace expectations, behaviour, and professionalism.
- HR plays an important role in recruitment, helping people access job opportunities fairly
- HR helps resolve conflict in the workplace and promotes equality and inclusion
Overall, I believe HR is extremely important for young people entering the workplace because HR helps employees feel supported, respected and valued. HR creates a safer and fairer working environment by ensuring that everyone is treated equally and has someone to turn to for advice or support. As a young person starting employment, having guidance from HR would help me build confidence, understand workplace expectations and even develop professionally within my role.
