He brings with him a wealth of experience having previously practiced as an employment law solicitor and partner at a leading law firm, adding an extra dynamic to the team’s services.

As HR partner in his previous firm, Robin took responsibility for internal HR for over 100 employees. This experience gives Robin a unique insight into the challenges and reality of what employers, managers and HR professionals face each day.  Robin’s clients ranged from national multi-million-pound corporate entities through to SMEs. Crossing a range of industries from IT; construction; charities; manufacturing; finance and hospitality. Robin continues to advise a range of businesses as their ‘go-to’ advisor.

We caught up with Robin to discuss more about his newly appointed role at ViewHR and what he finds most interesting about employment law:

What’s your role at ViewHR?

I am an Employment Law Consultant. That means I specialise in the more complex, contentious, or technical issues that arise for our clients. I was a solicitor and partner in a leading law firm for many years. I not only specialised in employment law, but also had responsibility for over 100 employees too. I can now use all that experience to the benefit of View HR’s clients.

Why do you find employment law so interesting?

It involves people! It is often a quite unique blend of complicated law and human beings. The two will conflict at times, but our job is to keep employer and employee within the law, whilst supporting the commercial objectives of our clients.

What do you love about your job?

People again! I find people fascinating and you never stop learning if you take the time to listen to everyone you meet. Added to my passion for employment law, the job just fits my personality (and my nosiness).

What types of clients do you work with?

They are so varied. Manufacturing; health care; professional services; PR; finance; or technology. It does not matter how many employees a client has. Our role is to help the client achieve their business objectives and remain within the law and HR best-practice.

What makes ViewHR different from the rest?

The investment in experienced specialists that is so rare within the HR industry. Our team of advisors really do come with vast experience in their field, and we can now offer in-house employment law advice. The benefit to the client cannot be overestimated.

With his broad experience, Robin can provide an insight into the contentious nature of employment law and how to avoid disputes, including advice on settlement when necessary. Robin can also provide engaging training, having done so for clients in-house and to large audiences of varied backgrounds. Robin is a qualified Mental Health First Aider and has vast experience of advising on managing mental health within the workplace, including neurodiversity.

Commenting on the recent appointment, Gemma Murphy, Founder and Director said:

“Having worked professionally alongside (and against) Robin in the past, I know his ethos, skills and his commitment to clients matches perfectly with the culture of ViewHR and our clients. Robin’s appointment only strengthens our team and the services we offer our clients”
