As View HR celebrates 10 years, I’ve been thinking about the journey we’ve been on. I joined the business in its early days. Gemma had already founded View HR, and we met by chance at the end of 2015. We got on straight away, and as someone who had spent years working in internal HR roles, I was looking for something with more variety. I wanted to work with different people, different organisations, and have the chance to do something meaningful every day. Consultancy felt like the right fit.
At the time, I had a few clients of my own, and Gemma had more work than she could handle. We had regular chats about how we could support each other, and eventually I became an associate within the first year. That move allowed us to offer more to our clients, but just as importantly, we became each other’s support system. We had someone to bounce ideas off, to share the load, and to help each other grow. That partnership has been central to how View HR has developed.
Over time, we’ve grown steadily and made decisions that felt right for us. Becoming a shareholder was a big moment for me, and something we had talked about a lot and for a number of years. It felt like a natural next step.
Another key moment was when Heidi joined us. She came on board as an employee, full of passion for HR and a real talent for connecting with people. She brought the energy and time to really raise awareness of who we are and what we offer, which was something we hadn’t had the chance to focus on properly before. Her work helped us grow and reach new clients, and it wasn’t long before she joined the leadership team as a shareholder too.
Then came COVID. Like many businesses, we were unsure what the future would hold. I still remember the three of us saying every Friday, “We might need to furlough next week.” But we never did, in fact, quite the opposite! Instead, we adapted. We moved from mostly face-to-face work to fully remote and supported our clients through one of the most challenging periods many of them had faced. We came out stronger and more connected to the people we work with.
What’s always stood out to me about View HR is that it’s never been about any one person. Our strength comes from how we work together. It’s about trust, collaboration, and a shared belief in doing things the right way.
We’ve built a culture that reflects our own experiences. As directors, we’re all working mums at different stages of family life. My children are now adults, but we all understand what it means to juggle work and home. That experience has shaped how we treat our team. We value flexibility because we know how important it is.
Personally, I’ve had both brilliant and not-so-brilliant bosses. The good ones supported and challenged me at the right time. That’s something I try to carry with me. I hope we’ve created a place where people work hard, take pride in what they do, and feel trusted and respected. We also try not to take ourselves too seriously. We laugh a lot and genuinely enjoy working together.
Looking ahead, I want us to keep doing what we’re doing, but even better. We’ll continue to invest in our team, support our clients with care and expertise, and grow in a way that feels right for us.
To everyone who’s been part of the journey so far, thank you. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I’m excited for what’s next.
